Buying a new or pre-owned vehicle involves much more than finding an attractive sticker price. Vehicle price, manufacturer incentives, financing rates, trade-in value, dealer fees, taxes, insurance, and long-term ownership costs can all affect whether a car represents good value.

The Costco Auto Program gives Costco members another way to approach that process. Instead of Costco selling vehicles directly, the program connects members with participating Costco Auto Program Approved Dealers and provides access to prearranged member pricing on eligible new and pre-owned vehicles.

Costco also periodically offers limited-time member incentives on selected manufacturers and models. These incentives can sometimes be combined with the program's prearranged pricing and applicable manufacturer incentives, subject to the individual offer's terms.

For shoppers researching Costco car deals in 2026, understanding how these different savings opportunities work can make it easier to compare the Costco Auto Program with conventional dealership shopping.

How the Costco Auto Program Works

Costco does not operate traditional car dealerships and does not directly sell the vehicles offered through the Costco Auto Program.

Instead, Costco Auto Program works with a network of participating dealerships.

The general buying process involves selecting the type of vehicle you are interested in, entering your ZIP code, choosing a make, model and trim, and then being connected with an Approved Dealer participating in the program.

The Approved Dealer can then provide the applicable prearranged Costco Member Price.

This structure is designed to reduce some of the uncertainty shoppers may encounter when negotiating a vehicle purchase from scratch.

However, vehicle inventory and participating dealerships vary by market.

Costco Member Car Pricing

One of the main attractions of the Costco Auto Program is prearranged member pricing.

Rather than starting the buying process solely from the manufacturer's suggested retail price and negotiating downward, Costco members can access a price that has already been arranged with the participating dealership.

That does not automatically mean the Costco price will be the lowest possible price available anywhere.

A competing dealer could potentially offer a lower promotional price, additional manufacturer incentive, larger trade-in allowance, or another discount.

For that reason, shoppers can use the Costco Member Price as an important comparison point rather than assuming they should purchase immediately.

A useful comparison might include:

Cost Factor	Costco Auto Program	Other Dealer Quote
Vehicle selling price	Compare	Compare
Manufacturer incentive	Check eligibility	Check eligibility
Member incentive	May apply	Usually not applicable
Trade-in value	Compare separately	Compare separately
Dealer fees	Review	Review
Financing APR	Compare	Compare
Loan term	Compare	Compare
Monthly payment	Compare	Compare
Total amount financed	Compare	Compare
Out-the-door price	Compare	Compare

The out-the-door price is particularly important because it shows more of the actual amount required to purchase the vehicle after applicable taxes and fees.

Costco Car Deals and Limited-Time Member Incentives

Costco Auto Program periodically runs Limited-Time Specials with participating vehicle manufacturers.

These offers can provide additional Costco member incentives on selected vehicles.

For example, earlier 2026 Costco Auto Program promotions included incentives on selected vehicles from brands such as Volvo, Chrysler and Chevrolet. Some offers provided different incentive amounts for Executive members and Gold Star or Business members. Those particular promotions had defined eligibility requirements and expiration dates, illustrating why a current offer should always be checked rather than assuming an earlier Costco incentive remains available.

This is an important distinction:

A past Costco vehicle incentive is not a permanent Costco discount.

Available manufacturers, models, incentive amounts and expiration dates can change throughout the year.

Costco Car Deals for Executive Members

Costco currently charges $65 per year for Gold Star membership and $130 per year for Executive membership. Costco describes Executive membership as including additional benefits and savings on certain Costco Services.

Some Costco Auto Program Limited-Time Specials have offered larger vehicle incentives to Executive members.

For example, certain earlier 2026 offers showed differences of several hundred dollars between Executive-member and Gold Star/Business-member incentives, depending on the eligible vehicle.

That does not mean Executive members always receive a larger car discount.

It depends entirely on the promotion running at the time of purchase.

Someone considering an Executive membership primarily because of a vehicle purchase should therefore compare the actual incremental incentive with the additional membership cost and verify eligibility before upgrading.

Costco New Car Deals

Costco Auto Program can be used to research eligible new vehicles through participating Approved Dealers.

The available categories can include:

SUVs
Trucks
Sedans
Hatchbacks
Vans
Sports cars
Wagons
Coupes and convertibles
Hybrid vehicles
Electric vehicles
Luxury vehicles

Costco's current Auto Program presents these categories as part of its vehicle-shopping process.

For new-car shoppers, there can potentially be several layers of value to investigate:

Prearranged Costco Member Price

plus

Applicable manufacturer incentives

plus

A Costco Limited-Time Special when one is available and the buyer qualifies.

Costco specifically promotes the ability to combine its prearranged member price with publicly available manufacturer incentives when applicable.

Offer terms determine what can actually be combined.

Costco Used Car Deals and Pre-Owned Vehicles

The Costco Auto Program also supports shopping for pre-owned vehicles.

Used-car pricing can be more difficult to compare than new-car pricing because two vehicles of the same model and model year can have very different:

Mileage
Condition
Service histories
Accident histories
Trim levels
Optional equipment
Warranty coverage

That makes vehicle-specific comparison especially important.

When evaluating a pre-owned vehicle, shoppers should compare the Costco-associated offer with similar vehicles based on the same year, trim, mileage and condition rather than comparing only the model name.

A cheaper used vehicle with significantly higher mileage or a different trim is not necessarily a better deal.

Costco SUV Deals

SUVs remain a major category within the Costco Auto Program.

A shopper researching an SUV can compare compact, midsize, three-row, luxury, hybrid and electric options depending on available inventory.

The purchase price is important, but SUV buyers should also consider:

Fuel economy
Insurance cost
Cargo capacity
Seating
Reliability
Warranty
Maintenance
Tire costs
Resale value
Financing rate

A lower purchase price can be offset by higher long-term operating costs.

This is especially relevant when comparing conventional gasoline SUVs with hybrid or electric alternatives.

Costco Truck Deals

Costco Auto Program also includes trucks among its vehicle-shopping categories.

Earlier in 2026, one Costco Limited-Time Special advertised incentives of $3,000 for Executive members and $2,750 for Gold Star and Business members on select new Chevrolet trucks, subject to registration, eligibility and the promotion's expiration date. That promotion was time-limited and should not be treated as a current universal Chevrolet truck discount.

The example demonstrates why truck shoppers should check Costco's active specials when they are ready to purchase.

For trucks, comparisons should also account for substantial differences between:

Two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive
Engine choices
Towing packages
Cab configurations
Bed lengths
Payload capacity
Trim levels

A vehicle's configuration can change its price by thousands of dollars.

Costco Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Deals

Hybrid and electric vehicles are another potentially valuable comparison area.

Costco Auto Program has previously run manufacturer-specific incentives on electric vehicles, including promotions involving Volvo EVs and other EV brands.

When comparing an electric or hybrid vehicle, consider more than the advertised incentive.

Important cost factors can include:

Vehicle purchase price
Available manufacturer incentive
Eligible government incentives
Home charging equipment
Electricity costs
Insurance
Maintenance
Battery warranty
Expected resale value

Tax incentives and other government benefits have specific eligibility rules and can change, so they should be verified separately before being included in a purchase calculation.

Costco Car Financing: Compare the APR, Not Just the Payment

Finding an attractive vehicle price is only one part of buying a car.

Auto financing can materially change the total amount paid.

Consider two buyers purchasing the same vehicle at the same price.

If one qualifies for a lower annual percentage rate, that buyer may pay substantially less interest over the life of the loan.

When comparing vehicle financing, review:

APR
Loan amount
Loan term
Down payment
Monthly payment
Total interest
Total amount paid

A dealer may be able to arrange financing, but buyers can also compare offers from banks and credit unions where appropriate.

The important point is to compare financing separately from the vehicle selling price.

Why a Lower Monthly Car Payment Is Not Always Cheaper

Monthly payment can be misleading when viewed by itself.

For illustration, imagine financing $35,000.

A longer loan term can reduce the monthly payment, but it can also keep the borrower in debt longer and potentially increase total interest.

That means:

Lower monthly payment ≠ automatically lower total vehicle cost.

Before signing, compare the total amount paid over the complete financing term.

This becomes especially important with 72- or 84-month auto loans, where a relatively manageable monthly payment can hide a much larger long-term financial commitment.

Costco Auto Leasing

Some shoppers may prefer leasing rather than purchasing.

A lease generally provides use of a vehicle for a defined term and mileage allowance rather than immediate ownership.

When evaluating a lease, compare:

Amount due at signing
Monthly payment
Lease term
Annual mileage allowance
Excess-mileage charges
Acquisition fee
Disposition fee
Wear-and-tear rules
Purchase option
Insurance requirements

A low advertised lease payment can require a substantial upfront payment, so shoppers should compare the total lease cost, not only the monthly amount.

Car Trade-In Value

Trade-ins can have a major influence on the final vehicle transaction.

However, the new vehicle price and trade-in value should ideally be evaluated separately.

Suppose one dealership offers:

$2,000 less for the new vehicle

but another offers:

$3,000 more for the trade-in.

The second transaction could potentially produce the better overall result even though the new vehicle's selling price is higher.

Before visiting a dealer, consumers can research the approximate market value of their existing vehicle and consider obtaining multiple trade-in offers.

Important factors include:

Model year
Mileage
Trim
Condition
Accident history
Maintenance history
Local demand

The relevant number is ultimately the net transaction cost.

How to Compare Costco Car Prices With Dealer Prices

A useful strategy is to obtain the Costco Member Price and compare it with another legitimate dealer quote for a similarly configured vehicle.

Make sure the vehicles actually match.

Compare:

Make

Model

Model year

Trim

Engine

Drivetrain

Options

Accessories

Then compare the complete financial picture.

Example

Imagine one dealer quotes:

Vehicle price: $39,000

Dealer fee: $700

Total before tax and registration: $39,700

Another quote might show:

Vehicle price: $39,400

Dealer fee: $200

Total before tax and registration: $39,600

The second offer has a higher advertised vehicle price but a lower combined cost.

This is why the final numbers matter more than one headline discount.

Costco Car Deals and Manufacturer Incentives

Manufacturer incentives can take several forms.

Examples can include:

Customer cash
Bonus cash
Loyalty incentives
Conquest incentives
Promotional financing
Lease incentives
Model-specific discounts

Costco Auto Program says applicable manufacturer incentives may be combined with its prearranged member pricing.

However, some incentives cannot necessarily be combined with others.

For example, a manufacturer may offer a choice between:

Promotional APR financing

Cash rebate

rather than both.

The buyer should calculate which option produces the lower total cost based on the amount financed and expected loan term.

Costco Auto Program Parts and Service Discount

The Costco Auto Program extends beyond vehicle purchasing.

Costco currently advertises a 15% discount on qualifying parts, service and accessories at participating service centers, with maximum savings of $500 per visit. Restrictions apply, and Costco specifically states that the benefit does not apply to certain categories such as oil changes, tires, state-mandated inspections and some other services. Not every Costco Auto Program dealership participates.

This is separate from Costco Tire Centers.

For members who already own a vehicle, the service-center benefit may therefore be worth checking even when they are not purchasing another car.

Is the Costco Auto Program Always the Cheapest Way to Buy a Car?

Not necessarily.

The Costco Auto Program's value proposition is broader than simply promising the lowest price in every transaction.

Potential advantages include:

Prearranged member pricing
Approved Dealer network
Periodic member incentives
Manufacturer incentive compatibility where applicable
A more structured buying process
Costco Auto Program support

However, market conditions differ.

A dealership could independently offer:

Clearance pricing
A larger dealer discount
Aggressive financing
Higher trade-in value
Model-specific inventory discounts

For this reason, the strongest approach is often to use the Costco offer as a serious benchmark and compare it with other legitimate offers.

How to Use the Costco Auto Program

The process generally begins online.

1. Select New or Pre-Owned

Choose the type of vehicle being considered.

2. Enter the ZIP Code

The system uses the location to identify applicable participating dealers and inventory.

3. Select the Vehicle

Choose the make, model and trim.

4. Locate an Approved Dealer

The program identifies an eligible Costco Auto Program Approved Dealer.

5. Review the Member Price

The participating dealership provides the prearranged Costco Member Price for the applicable vehicle.

6. Check Current Incentives

Look for manufacturer incentives and active Costco Limited-Time Specials.

7. Compare Financing

Review dealer financing alongside any available bank or credit-union options.

8. Evaluate the Trade-In Separately

Compare the value offered for the existing vehicle.

9. Request the Complete Price

Review taxes, registration, dealer charges and other costs before agreeing to the transaction.

What to Check Before Buying Through Costco Auto Program

Before completing a vehicle purchase, review:

Exact vehicle and trim
Costco Member Price
Current Costco member incentive
Manufacturer incentives
Dealer fees
Accessories
Trade-in allowance
Financing APR
Loan term
Monthly payment
Total interest
Taxes and registration
Warranty coverage
Insurance estimate
Out-the-door price

This creates a much clearer picture of the actual value of the deal.

Should I compare the Costco price with another dealer?

Yes. Comparing the Costco Member Price with other legitimate offers can help determine which transaction provides the strongest overall value.

Conclusion

The Costco Auto Program can give members a structured way to shop for new and pre-owned vehicles while accessing prearranged member pricing through participating Approved Dealers.

The potential value can become more significant when an eligible vehicle also qualifies for a Costco Limited-Time Special or manufacturer incentive.

However, the best car deal is not determined by the vehicle's advertised price alone.

A complete comparison should include:

Vehicle selling price + incentives + financing + trade-in value + dealer fees + taxes + insurance + ownership costs.

Costco's prearranged price can provide a useful starting point for that comparison, while periodic member incentives may create additional opportunities on selected vehicles.

Because manufacturers, participating dealers, inventory and promotions change, shoppers researching Costco car deals in 2026 should check the active program offers when they are actually ready to purchase or lease.
